Director of Billing and Collections

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work closely with and report directly to the Senior Director of Finance
  • Manage the firm’s operations of the client/matter financial set up, billing, collections, trust and cash application functions
  • Assess and enhance the processes for billing, collections, trust and cash application processes
  • Manage and mentor the Client Accounting Managers and Supervisors
  • Collaborate with Practice Group Leaders and Management on practice specific billing and collections initiatives
  • Utilize financial data to identify trends, patterns and opportunities for process improvements
  • Develop and prepare ad-hoc reports
  • Work with other teams to facilitate the billings and collections process
  • Implement collection strategies
  • Oversee the documentation of billing and collection policies and procedures
  • Coordinate and conduct training and orientation for new lateral partners, billing attorneys, and staff
  • Resolve billing and collection issues, ensuring high levels of client satisfaction
  • Supervise the daily activity of department personnel and ensure operating needs are met
  • Provide problem solving assistance and participates in large department projects
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, attorneys and staff

REQUIREMENTS:

  • 10+ years of billing and collections experience in a law firm or professional services firm environment
  • Prior experience managing large teams with legal specific billing software
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Work effectively in a team environment and act as a role model for billing employees
  • Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Deal courteously and effectively with others while delegating work effectively
  • Personally handle more complex issues/duties requiring independent exercise of discretion and judgment
  • Very focused on customer service and user support
