Business Development Specialist – M&A/PE

LOCATION: New York, New York

SUMMARY: Top-ranked global law firm is seeking a highly motivated Business Development Specialist to support the firm’s market-leading M&A/PE practice on key client research, marketing, and competitive intelligence efforts. The ideal candidate will be able to liaise closely with the lawyers on the team to facilitate various projects and strategic initiatives to drive the development of new business.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitor and evaluate BD efforts and initiatives within M&A, finance and investment space

  • Analyze client’s and competitor’s market trends 

  • Design and own project timelines and collaborate with necessary departments to ensure deadline completion

  • Prepare and maintain competitive analysis 

  • Collaborate with practice group partners and associates to maintain and prepare new decks, one-pagers and other client-facing content

  • Identify and plan sponsorship of and participation in select conference, events and client galas

  • Collaborate with the Communications and Marketing teams to promote the practice internally and externally

  • Collaborate with practice groups to identify cross-selling opportunities

  • Implement strategies to capture cross-selling opportunities

  • Manage the practice group’s Marketing & Development budget

  • Conduct research on key stakeholders to engage with to maximize strategic communication between law firm partners/executives and event participants

  • Report key marketing and BD metrics as related to the industry group’s practice; identify efficiencies and areas of improvement

  • Assist with management of project and department budget

  • Promote firm brand internally and externally through intranet site and external social media initiatives

REQUIREMENTS:

  • 3+ years of either legal business development/marketing experience OR financial analysis experience within M&A/PE

  • Bachelor's degree required; JD or MBA preferred

  • Deep experience and expertise within M&A/PE

  • Experience with legal RFPs and/or competitive intelligence research is preferred

  • Microsoft Office Suite proficiency; advanced MS Excel

  • Working knowledge of CRM/Experience Management Software, such as InterAction, Salesforce, ContentPilot and transaction/private funds platforms (Preqin, Intelligize, Capital IQ, MSCI, etc.)

  • Advanced research and analytical thinking skills

  • Ability to prioritize, organize and meet multiple projects deadlines at one time

  • Motivated, energetic and persuasive

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrates good judgment in communication
