We spoke with Mary Suneetha, Senior Recruiter, who has over a decade of experience placing candidates in top firms.

Q: What do you think differentiates a good candidate from a great one?
Mary: Preparation. Great candidates don’t just have the skills—they demonstrate a clear understanding of the firm, its culture, and how they’ll add value.

Q: What’s the most common mistake candidates make?
Mary: Generic applications, or “throwing gum at the wall and seeing if it sticks”. Demonstrate (with clear examples) why you’re the right fit for that specific role.

Q: How important are soft skills in today’s market?
Mary: Incredibly important. Firms are looking for team players who can communicate effectively within their teams. A brilliant professional who can’t build relationships will struggle to advance.

Q: What’s your #1 tip for job seekers?

Mary: Be proactive. Don’t wait for the “perfect” job ad. Reach out to recruiters, build your professional network, and be open to opportunities you might not have considered.
