Trust & Estates Client Services Paralegal (Fiduciary Accounting) 

LOCATION: New York, NY

THE ORGANIZATION: Large U.S. Based Multinational Law Firm

COMPENSATION: Base salary will commensurate with experience, up to $115K, Paid Overtime Benefits; Paid Time Off; 401K; Life and AD&D Insurance; travel and tuition reimbursement options, generous bonus, benefits including Medical, Dental and Vision Coverage

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage and prepare probate proceeding papers 

  • Maintain estate administration files and a complete set of correspondence, memos and administrative documents

  • Collect and run a valuation of assets, payment of debts and bequests 

  • Prepare and file federal and state tax returns 

  • Prepare informal estate and trust accounting

  • Correspond with clients requesting gift information and monitor the status of gift tax returns; prepare gift tax returns

  • Prepare life insurance forms transferring ownership and change beneficiaries of life insurance policies

  • Assist in all phases of the administration process from the collection of assets to final distribution of assets; manage income tax payments

  • Work with real estate and corporate specialists to transfer assets

  • Review Form 1041’s prepared by accountants

  • Prepare receipt and release agreements

  • Organize fiduciary appointments and tax planning

  • Handle all trust and estate administration 

  • Prepare federal estate tax returns and appropriate state estate tax returns

  • Manage client contact information, letters, e-mails, estate planning documents and asset lists

 

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • 2+ years of Trust & Estate paralegal experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree required 

  • Ability to travel and work overtime as needed 

  • Knowledge of estate and trust income taxation

  • Proficient using One Source Estate Tax Program and NYSBA Surrogate Court program required

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a talent for developing rapport with clients, attorneys and co-workers 

  • The ability to work well under pressure and coordinate several activities at once

  • The initiative to problem-solve and meet strict deadlines

  • Strong research skills

  • Proficient using computer software and MS Excel

  • The willingness to make a long-term commitment to the Firm
