POSITION: Staff Accountant

LOCATION: New York, NY

OVERVIEW: Seeking a highly motivated and ambitious Accountant looking to develop a long-term career within the Accounting department of a well-established law firm. Reporting to the Partnership Accounting Manager, the Staff Accountant will be responsible for a variety of partnership accounting tasks and have exposure to a variety of practice groups within the firm.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain maintenance contracts in the Fixed Assets Management system
  • Audits completion of the Fixed Assets Management generated journey entry reports 
  • Manually prepares journal entries 
  • Provide analytical support and information requests to Firmwide departments
  • Process expense reports and invoices, prepare cost batches, wires and checks 
  • Prepare and generate Excel Spreadsheets and reports for Partners including cash and billing reports  
  • Assist in preparation of monthly financial reports
  • Research open Accounts Payable invoices and enter purchases into Fixed Management System
  • Maintain accurate reports and provide to the Tax department to ensure domestic and international reporting requirements are met
  • Analyze trends and investigate discrepancies
  • Prepare account reconciliation; process and analyze account transactions including accrued expenses, journal entries and maintain up to date files
  • Research, analyze and resolve inquiries pertaining to financial transactions
  • Review daily transactions and partner with non-accounting staff as needed
  • Manage balance sheet accounts ensuring integrity by thoroughly reviewing account activity and balances for validity and prepare supporting audit schedules

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; 3.0 GPA or higher
  • Familiarity with partnership accounting preferred; CPA or CPA track a plus
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Strong communications skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to prioritize competing demands under tight deadlines
  • Proficient in Excel and Word
  • Familiarity with Elite and Chrome River is a plus!
  • Strong attention to detail 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Willingness to work overtime when necessary
