Research & Competitive Intelligence Manager

LOCATION: New York, NY

SUMMARY: Top-ranked global law firm is seeking a Research & Competitive Intelligence Manager to support the Firm’s strategic policy, competitive intelligence and business analytics efforts. This position works closely alongside the Global Research Lead to help shape firm strategy.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage and assist with the cultivation and execution of meaningful strategic business development and analytics initiatives
  • Design project timelines and monitor high-priority and high-yield opportunities 
  • Engage in comprehensive research of the Firm’s transactions across a wide breadth of industries, geographies and transaction types using a variety of internal and external resources
  • Accurately capture and maintain comprehensive transaction deals in the Firm’s extensive database
  • Create manuals and resource materials for the experience database, outlining best practices for researching and recording transactions as well as helping to develop definitions and taxonomies
  • Provide research, coordination and other logistical management and execution of new business pitches
  • Refine and curate core materials related to specific industries, practice descriptions and representative experience
  • Research, develop, and manage on-point visibility opportunities, such as industry seminars and speaking/sponsorship opportunities to increase an individual or the group’s profile
  • Monitor alerts and news flow to support proactive team initiatives
  • Conduct competitive intelligence and benchmarking research within an industry or among peer firms
  • Assist with collecting specific case experience to record in case tracking database
  • Stay on top of new developments in the legal sector and overall business environment to stay on top of trends in the industry 
  • Update data in the Firm’s marketing CRM database, including the review and creation of mailing lists
  • Review and consult with attorneys on new content, including matters and awards/rankings, and focus of their biographies
  • Collaborate with all functions of the greater Business Development team and Research & Competitive Intelligence team
  • Supervise the firm’s Research Analyst and offer support and mentorship

REQUIREMENTS:

  • 7+ years of business intelligence or market research/analysis experience in a law firm, finance or investment banking environment
  • Bachelor’s Degree Required, an advanced degree is a strong plus!
  • Deep knowledge of associated sources, techniques and technologies 
  • An in depth understanding of sources covering corporate, mergers & acquisitions, private equity and litigation data
  • Exceptional communication and listening skills, including an innate ability to communicate with stakeholders
  • Proven ability to organize and manage a diverse range of projects, prioritizing multiple tasks with competing deadlines (at times in high-pressure situations)
  • Expert knowledge of with Microsoft Office software
  • Proficiency with various research databases
  • Professional, emotional intelligence and collaboration
