SUMMARY: Top-ranked law firm is seeking Law Clerks to serve and file legal papers, perform data entry and research, manage records, and provide information and assistance to attorneys, legal assistants and support staff. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • File paper and electronic legal filings in state and federal courts
  • Advise attorneys on court procedure, including electronic case filing procedures
  • Process litigation case files using file management system
  • Maintain and update litigation support database
  • Conduct research into federal and state court filings and other public records
  • Responsible for overseeing and using computerized case management system
  • Responsible for understanding and researching court procedural rules
  • Maintain the firm’s tickler system for deadlines
  • Act as liaison with court personnel
  • Go to court to process documents and do research
  • Obtain copies of decisions/orders rendered by courts
  • Establish and maintain good working relations with court personnel including process servers and couriers
  • Oversee docketing system by ensuring that all documents are entered for each case and that the deadlines are calculated correctly
  • Keep abreast of developments, procedures and rules in the forums where the firm practices including general state and federal practice

REQUIREMENTS:

  • 1+ years of related experience within a law firm
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Knowledge of relevant Firm computer software programs, including Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Strong research skills and proficiency using various research tools, such as Westlaw, LexisNexis, PACER and other court-related websites
  • Exceptionally strong verbal and written communications skills
  • Strong attention to detail, follow-through and resourcefulness
  • Ability to prioritize competing demands under tight deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to professionally work and collaborate with colleagues at all levels
  • Flexibility to adjust hours and work the hours necessary to meet operating and business needs
  • Flexibility to travel
