Summary: A top Tech, Life Science and Consumer Products Law Firm is seeking a seasoned and strategic Business Development Manager to lead local marketing and business development initiatives while supporting firmwide growth objectives. This role offers the opportunity to make a visible impact in a collaborative, high-performing environment, working closely with attorneys and leadership to strengthen client relationships, expand market presence, and drive measurable results.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Planning: Develop and implement business development plans tailored to Boston office priorities, ensuring alignment with firmwide goals and responsiveness to market shifts.
- Attorney Collaboration: Partner with attorneys and practice leaders to identify client targets, growth opportunities, and innovative approaches to business development.
- Market Intelligence: Monitor competitor activity, client developments, and industry trends to inform proactive strategies and positioning.
- Reporting & Insights: Deliver regular updates on BD outcomes, pipeline activity, and strategic insights to Boston office leadership.
- Research & Targeting: Conduct advanced research using tools such as LinkedIn Sales Navigator, Lex Machina, and Docket Navigator to support client targeting and industry positioning.
- Pitch & Proposal Support: Provide tailored support for proposals, RFP responses, and presentations, ensuring compelling and client-focused materials.
- Attorney Engagement: Gather feedback from attorneys to refine BD resources and continuously improve support for the Boston office.
- Thought Leadership: Identify and promote opportunities for speaking engagements, publications, and industry recognition to elevate the visibility of Boston attorneys.
- Public Relations: Collaborate with PR teams to enhance the profile of Boston attorneys and firm practices.
- Community Engagement: Build connections through local organizations such as the Boston Chamber of Commerce and industry associations to expand visibility and networks.
- Event Management: Coordinate client-facing programs, networking events, sponsorships, and office initiatives; evaluate ROI and follow-up opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Alumni Relations: Serve as the primary contact for alumni initiatives, maintaining and expanding networks to drive referrals and firmwide opportunities.
- Practice Group Support: Provide lead support in the firm’s practice group model, coordinating with leadership on BD priorities.
- Collaboration: Partner with colleagues across offices on firmwide initiatives and contribute to regular department meetings.
- Team Leadership: Mentor and oversee BD specialists and coordinators, fostering professional growth and cross-functional collaboration.
- Resource Management: Oversee marketing materials, promotional items, and budgets for Boston BD activities.
- Additional Duties: Support other tasks as assigned by the CMO, directors, and managers.
Required skills:
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred (Marketing, Business Administration, Political Science, or related field).
- Minimum of seven years of experience in legal marketing or business development, ideally within Intellectual Property or Corporate law.
- Demonstrated success in strategic planning, event management, project leadership, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to synthesize data and convey strategic implications clearly.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; experience in proposal writing, collateral development, and team mentoring.
- Proficiency in CRM systems, Microsoft Office Suite (including Copilot), virtual event platforms, and video-conferencing technologies; SharePoint experience a plus.
- Advanced research capabilities with tools such as Sales Navigator, Lex Machina, and Docket Navigator.
